Kilroy was here
Mom’s cat, and ours
When Mom adopted Kilroy from a backyard litter, she named him in a nod to Dad’s World War II service. Kilroy was devoted to her, but to most of our family he was just “Mom’s imaginary cat.” When Kilroy needed a new home, we took him in, and a part of Mom lived on in him. As Kilroy’s time to leave us drew near, Dee composed this tribute:
He’s only a cat…
He’s only a cat, but he captured our hearts,
He’s stubborn and sweet, an undeniable part of
Our lives since we brought him into our home,
Another new place to explore and to roam.
He is not very sociable, this “invisible” pet,
And avoids any contact with those he’s not met.
But as for his “people,” those chosen few,
He allows them to pet him, his loyalty true.
His place in our home has been firmly cemented,
He asks nothing more than to rule unrestricted.
And as his life’s journey comes to an end,
We’ll treasure our time with this dear feline friend.
We’ll never forget him. He’s only our cat…
Remembrance
Kilroy has gone. Mom, we took care of your boy.
